Week 3 - Level 3 Sketch Design

With the finalisation of the brief the sketch design could be refined further to include all relevant spaces and create spaces in accordance with the brief. Vertical connection will be achieved through the light well, connection each of the three levels vertically while also allowing light to permeate the interior. As the levels progress from public, to semi-public to semi-private a visual connection is maintained, creating a sense of community within the building.

The initial sketch designs were refined further to allow added green space for inhabitants and visitors, also creating better circulation around the void space. The openness and circulation created by the light well and revised planning allows for a highly collaborative environment for artists. The existing elevator system is to be used, creating a central focus around the light well as it is at the centre of it. All spaces essentially stem from the light well.

The sketch design is a collaborative process conducted by all members of the group, all providing input and suggestions. As each member of the team gets in to their specific roles it also adds additional levels of detail to the design which must be considered. It is useful to design with specific disciplines in mind so as to create a more resolved and well thought out design.
