Week 2 - Phasing in Revit

During the lesson it became important that we all developed an understanding of Phasing within Revit, therefore in regards to our new design, the existing model has to be altered to establish what walls are staying, which ones are being demolished, and where new walls are being built.

Demolish Plan Ground Floor
Above is a quick sketch example on what walls will be demolished to make way for the new internal fit out.

Transferring this information into Revit, we can using the 'Phase' function to sort out which walls are staying, and which are being demolished. By using this tool, we can quickly switch between new and existing viewpoints without having to actually delete any of the existing walls/information within the model.

Changing the Phases
Within the original model file, all the elements created within the project were drawn under the 'new construction' phase, which means that the program thinks that all the walls are new and to be built. Since this is a renovation of an existing buildings, everything in the file can be classified as 'Existing' and not new.

Changing a wall to the Existing Phase

Now that the entire building has been changed to the Existing Phase, each floor plan has to be duplicated and renamed to correspond to what phase is being shown. This allows for more streamlined work flow and checking between existing/demolished/new walls.
